 What we do

We breed high quality paint horses in Northern British Columbia.

Thank you for visiting Nilson Farms, although we were established in 2014, we’ve been raising Paint horses for over 30 years.

In 2025 we are going to introduce LT Color Me Metallic, a black Tobiano son of our herd sire Colors With A Streak (Color Me Smart), and Dun With Color, a minimal white Grullo Tobiano son of our herd sire Colors With A Streak (Color Me Smart) both of these boys were home grown & raised from our own foundation bred mares in 2023! Both their dams are not only broke to ride, but have exceptional minds, are beautifully conformed, have excellent feet/bone, and versatile pedigrees to cross with our AMAZING Colors With A Streak to produce INCREDIBLY WELL MINDED, VERSATILE, SUPER SWEET horses with athletic ability, trainability, and a willingness incomparable to most - to pass on those same traits that everyone strives for & wants in their next mount!

We are also standing ROCKSTARS LIKE GUNS “Lenny” is a grandson of GUNNER and BUENO STARLIGHT, born and raised from Howell Performance Horse Company in Viola, Idaho. We are SUPER EXCITED to have this stunning TRIPLE REGISTERED AQHA, APHA, FQHA Palomino Overo working cow horse stud colt to ride, breed, and stand to outside mares starting in 2026! We’ve invested, and will continue to invest time into Lenny’s training program, with the goal to show him (once he’s ready) - with keeping his health and soundness as our #1 priority, as we want to make sure that Lenny, our other stallions, mares, and herd aren’t pushed to the point where they may WIN BIG in the show pen, but lose big in their bodies & pay for those choices (not theirs) for their lifetime with required maintenance.

Last but not least, we are proud to stand ON A KIZZIN STREKE “Milo” is a grandson of BUCOLENA CHEX and A TRU ROLEX, born and raised from Leslie Levesque in Grande Prairie, AB. Although Milo was a bit of a wild card for us, he has proven to win our hearts over & remain a stallion that we will proudly showcase here at Nilson Farms. He will also be offered to outside mares starting in 2026. In the meantime, this stunning Champagne Tobiano colt has excelled in his training program thus far, and will add more of that versatile ranch bred breeding to our working cow horse table!

All 4 of our young stallions will continue their training under saddle, and lead us to their most capable and desired disciplines as they mature and grow with us - with that said, we’ve always had an eye for horses with cow & cattiness, without being hot or difficult to manage; combined with a temperament that will allow them to excel in multiple disciplines, with multiple types of riders, and be enjoyable to ride and be around for long term.

We strive to put our horses as #1 always

We also have several mini and standard donkeys, a small herd of mixed commercial and mini cattle that includes Speckle Parks, Highland, Belted Galloways, Herfeford, and Lowline Angus cross (polled), llamas, alpacas & of course dogs & cats to round out your average barn yard!

Nilson Farms is located on a beautiful low sloping side hill, on a quarter section that produces excellent quality alfalfa mix hay for us at the bottom of our property, while we use the remainder for pasture & corral space.  We lease multiple other quarters for quality hay, to ensure we have enough feed to feed these lovely animals through the winter months & offer hay for sale. We have a small 36’x36’ insulated barn that we foal our mares out in, and all of our pastures have shelters in them, with a small calving pen in the center of our property.  Our property is fenced, and cross fenced.  Mostly with more than 5 wire fencing, to accommodate our mini cows, and mini donkeys, as we like to be able to turn all of our animals out to pasture together in the summer months when possible.  Other than Streaker, his pasture is located at the top of the hill, behind our house, over-looking the entire property, so he can see the entire herd from every angle, at all times.  He has his own shelter, and at times, we will put a mare, or two in with him as well.
